GF was buying shoes at the mall, and next door was a Tesla showroom.
There were two cars - a bare chassis, and a complete vehicle. When I was a kid, I built 1/24 slot cars for the big commerical tracks that were around then - and the Tesla chassis was pretty much just like one of those slot cars - big, flat, pan frame, 'big can' electric motor at the back axle, and that was pretty much it. I couldn't get over how much simpler an electric car is: no cooling system, no fuel system, no transmission, no transmission linkage, etc. etc.
The savings on engineering must be huge, and, batteries aside, the savings on the cost of manufacturing must be huge too. Makes you think.
