Door limiter/stop

I'm finishing a 72 Spider project (pictures soon) on the drivers side there is a spring style door stop limiter. On the passenger side it was missing, I sourced one and now see there is no provision for it in the door (hole or threaded holes) My 67 does not have this either so I'm guessing an early passenger door was installed on this car. Does anyone know what year the doors changed to include the hairpin style spring limiter?

Can not help you with that. On my car I have made retaining straps out of seat belt material. Aluminium strips with self tappers hold it in place.

I rebuilt the old style limiters on my '68 using a new strap from a VW Karmann Ghia:

That looks like a great solution. Except now I may have to look for earlier hinges. This car was a mess with lots of mix and match.
