Glenn Smith
hey guys, thought i should show you some progress on the X at the moment.
late last year i went and did a track day and after a couple of laps from the head gasket down there was oil covering practically everything (think i blew the head gasket). for about the last year i have been slowly building a Twin Cam motor for the car hoping to put it in around the middle of this year.
So i pulled the motor out and started cutting getting it ready for the Twin Cam.

i also made the air vent hole bigger so i could get more air into the quad throttle bodies going onto the new motor.

I purchased a Lancia engine mounting kit from a friend and here is how she sat in the car.

i got everything into the car for it to sit on the ground and to check the ground clearance and wow did i get a surprise.

with a Fiat Regatta gearbox and Lancia engine mounting just didn't work like i had hoped it had about 40mm ground clearance and the angles of the axcel's were completely wrong. so i have changed all of the mounts now and is looking much better.

the ground clearance that i have now is about 120mm.

i am using the original engine mount and cross member now and had to make a adapter plate from the cross member engine mount to the gearbox mount.

the top stabilizer mount is from a Fiat 128 and fitted into the exact place i wanted.

Now at the same time i am doing all of this i have also upgraded the brakes to cope with all of the extra power.
i have fitted a wilwood peddle box. what a tight fit.

P1020925.jpg

also fitted 315mm front disc's with wilwood 4 pot Calipers and on the rear i have fitted the Uno Turbo brakes (might be overkill for the little car but i want to be able to stop fast).

a comparison to the standard disc.

the 15in wheels and brakes i couldn't have any bigger disc's or calipers on the car without changing the wheel size.

we have also changed the front boot to take the new fuel tank and fuel injection stuff.

Sorry if its a bit long. hope you all like.

Really nice work....

... the twin cam installation is very much in keeping with the "Prototipo" theme. I really like the pedal box that you constructed. It certainly seems more serviceable than the stock Fiat unit. Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Dom.

Very nice

That is some really nice work. Wish I had the skill and patience for that type of project. :)

Glenn thanks for posting your progress!!!

This has been my screensaver since the day you posted it so you know what I think

Beautiful car.

Do you have better pics of what you did to the seat pan to get people to fit under that roof with the roll bar!!!???

i don't have any pics of what i have done to the floor pan to lower the seat but i can get some when i am get to the car next with a camera (its currently at a friends house getting all elctrics wired up). but basicaly i have had a new floor made and old one cut out to lower it about a inch and a half then put bracing in for where the seat mounts in and all welded in. i am still a little to close to the cage for my likeing but its the best i can do because otherwise i will be sitting on the ground.
